The Depth Of Freelancing In Architecture And Interiors

Considering the great development of the freelance market nowadays, Architecture is a field that without any doubt might present a lot of interest to aspiring or renowned professionals. But how many of you really know the responsabilities of a freelance architect or what it takes from self-entitling yourself that way to actually working as one.

Basically there isn’t much difference for a freelancer regarding duties than for a company architect. His biggest advantage is that he doesn’t have to wait for his company to give him a job, he is his own boss and master of his business. Therefore he is part of an open market containing other freelancers so that clients may have a wide range of choices. There are also clients that do not require a full-time architect for a full-time project and they like to have creative freedom regarding architecture projects. It is for this clients that the freelance architect will also come more handy that a company based one. The freelancer will without any doubt accept an offer regardless of time or place while the normal architect will have to be employed for a full-project.

Whether it is designing/planning of interiors, engineering plans, CAD works, site plans, drawings, design graphics in CAD or Turbo CAD the freelancer will have to give the same amount of seriousity and commitment to his work as a normal architect. He will also have to think about solving problems like site problems, drainage, structural issues etc. that usually a protective company deals with. Say goodbye to the “Excuse me I have to call my manager to see what we can do” line. Clients will expect you not only to know what to do when trouble comes but also to prevent any unexpected situations. Challenging isn’t it. And if this is not enough, remember it is a job where you have to meet with deadlines. Hoping that charisma will get you through not finishing on time is definitely not an option.

If you are still determined to go freelance in Architecture you will have to consider some legal steps and advertising. First you must be a registered/renowned architect. To become registered you need to prove to the Registration board for Architecture that you have graduated a profile school or that you have been working before in this domain. Of course there will be an exam. Next usual step would be contacting a nice cozy Architecture company for managing your abilities and fresh diploma. Not this time, because remember you are a free bird. You will have to advertise yourself in newspapers, websites or job portals. Don’t worry once you get started it will be easier for you to make a name for yourself than behind one of those Architecture companies. We all know that word spreads easy on the streets and that is where you will be working.
