Tips & Tricks–Effective Time Management Skills for an Architecture Student

With so much work, regular submissions, presentations and approaching project deadlines in an architecture school, it often becomes challenging for the architecture students to match the time limits or deadlines and complete the long list of the task at the assigned time. This calls for effective time management. Time is a limited commodity. If not managed properly, it will slip away, before you know it. The tips to manage time effectively in order to meet the approaching deadlines successfully without any excess baggage have been compiled below:
Prioritize the Task
Try prioritizing the various tasks based on urgency and importance. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to address each task in a given time frame. In that instance, it's important to prioritize the task list and work accordingly. It is better to focus on the task that has to be completed urgently than focus on those which possess a flexible time frame or can be delayed to some extent.

Carefully Design a Schedule
Design a work schedule and manage the time accordingly. List down the tasks that are to be completed in a given time frame and assign the time duration to each task. Don’t forget to include the time meant for other activities like recreation, exercise, sleep etc. (since these are important too) and try working according to the set schedule. Consider a schedule with proper time allotment fulfilling the basic necessities of life. This offers an opportunity to manage the activities as per requirement and helps to reduce the wastage of time.

A Time Log
Make it a habit to have a time log. Carefully note down all the activities done in a week along with the time spent over that particular activity. Note down the minute details. This enables efficient tracking of the activities and negative spaces in the schedule and helps in better management. Analyze the collected data and carefully identify your strengths and weakness. Make proper calculations and manage time considering the log. This helps to locate the negative and overshadowed spaces as well as overburdened time frames. Proper consideration may help in managing time more efficiently that finally giving fruitful results.
